About trees and flowers

Today our children enthusiastically cleaned and prepared the educare garden, getting it ready for planting spring flowers and summer vegetables. We planted thyme seedlings and lemongrass shoots that had been donated, and the best part for the children was smelling the leaves! Smelling the fragrant herbs and plants is a favourite activity during our weekly gardening sessions. Their senses are awakened by touching the leaves and taking deep breaths to inhale the fragrance. This enhances creativity and at the same time is very calming. During the Sunflower class creative session each child painted a beautiful tree using a print of their right or left hand for the crown of the tree, and then adding brightly coloured leaves and flowers using their fingertips that had been dipped into paint. Fitting images for our National Arbor week.
