This letter arrived from UK COLT friends who recently visited the Educare and we wanted to share it with you…..
We have been following the development of the Children of Light Educare for a number of years. During our initial visits we saw the beginnings of a school to encourage children from informal settlements to start their education and achieve their potential.
Facilities were simple, a house kindly donated to the school with the classroom located in the garage. Learners were selected by elders in their communities and collected from their homes by car each day. Whilst at school they were given a healthy meal prepared in the small kitchen. The care and commitment of all staff shone through and clearly provided the foundations for a much needed education initiative.
We visited the school again in May 2023 – so many positive changes!!
Increased staffing with all having achieved formal qualifications or working towards a qualification. The 2 classrooms are well organised and set up for teaching whilst children are happy, well-behaved and eager to learn.
The garage has been converted into a proper classroom to meet the requirements of the state registration process. Registration is a key step forward for the ongoing development of the school and has been recently achieved thanks to the commitment and tenacity of all involved.
Learners are now transported in the Educare’s mini-bus to and from school. This is also used for school outings which all children look forward to.
It was lovely to hear about past learners and their achievements, and the positive impact the school is having on wider family groups and the community is impressive.
We look forward to seeing further developments on our next visit. After looking back to write this we are in awe of what you have achieved!!!!
